How to check your SYNC software version

Each SYNC® software update is tailored to your system, so it’s important that you have reported your latest successful software update in your SYNC Owner account. If you believe your account is out of date, the SYNC Status Checker tool allows you to verify the SYNC software you have installed in your vehicle.²⁷

Before you start

There are a few things you should do before starting step 1:
- Activate your SYNC Owner account (if you haven’t already done so), by logging in and registering your vehicle
- Familiarize yourself with your vehicle’s USB port, controls, and display
- Locate an empty USB drive that holds 1 GB or more of data and is not password-protected

Open a browser and log in to the SYNC Owner site. Click SYNC Updates to go to the Update SYNC Software page.

Connect the empty USB drive to your computer.

Locate the SYNC Status Checker Tool section, and click Download Now.

A pop-up window displays the message, “Select a USB Drive.”

Select the desired USB drive.

A pop-up window displays the message, “Do not disconnect: Files are being downloaded to USB drive.”

Remove the USB drive once the download is completed. You’re now ready to check your vehicle’s SYNC status.

Take the USB drive to your vehicle. Start the engine, and then turn on the radio.

Make sure your vehicle is in a well-ventilated area. Your vehicle needs to be turned on, with the engine running. Make sure that your vehicle is not in Accessory mode.

Plug the USB drive into your vehicle’s USB port.

Press AUX to select SYNC Line In. Press OK.
Press Menu. SYNC Media displays. Press OK.

Media Menu displays, and then Play Menu appears.

Press Seek until System Settings is highlighted. Press OK.
Press Seek until Advanced is highlighted. Press OK.

Prompts display. Press Seek until Install Applications is highlighted. Press OK.

SYNC automatically detects the Status Checker files on your USB drive, and then displays “Install Application?” Press OK to confirm.

The Status Checker tool begins recording your vehicle’s SYNC status to the USB drive. While this process is running for approximately 1-5 minutes, do not remove your USB drive or turn off your vehicle.

SYNC prompts “Installation Complete.” Press Menu to exit installation mode. It is now safe to remove your USB drive.

To complete the process, take the USB drive to your computer to report your SYNC status . This helps us deliver the latest updates, customized for your SYNC system.
